Drone use is growing at a rapid rate in the UK.
Both the CAA and NATS have published information to ensure that those who wise to fly drones do so legally and safely.

You may be prosecuted if you fly ANY small unmanned aircraft within a Flight Restricted Zone without the appropriate authorization.
Drone Operations within Birmingham Airport FRZ
It is recognised that commercial operators and recreational users may, on occasion, wish to operate drones within the confines of the Flight Restricted Zone around Birmingham Airport. All drone operations must be carried out in line with the DRONE CODE.
If you do wish to operate a drone, the first step is to establish whether you require prior permission from Air Traffic Control before operating your drone. Using the above map, search for your postcode to determine which flight zone you are situated in.
If your planned drone flight falls inside the green, yellow or red zone as demonstrated on the above map, you will need prior permission from Air Traffic Control if you wish to operate a drone within the confines of the Flight Restricted Zone established around Birmingham Airport.
Authorization for such flights must be requested from Air Traffic Control and will only be provided after a safety impact assessment.

Please note it can take up to 48 hours to access and process any requests. On receipt and approval of your application you will be provided with a contact number to call on the day of the flight to obtain an Air Traffic Control clearance.
